what happened

David Friedrich decided the cabinet had gone by a slash for long enough and gave it a name with a face to go with it - HYPERCOLOR ASTEROIDS, over a signet that is one asteroid printed three times slightly off in magenta, cyan and lime, with the rock itself laid down the middle of them. The two words come out exactly the same width without anybody measuring, which is the only reason the thing survives a monospace stack it has never met. The same drawing turns up in the tab, painted rather than blended, because an icon is not promised its blend modes.

meanwhile

While v14 was on the cabinet, David Friedrich changed the rules.

landed as “The rules learned mercy, a witness, and the worth of a borrowed name” — 07 August 2026

The rules themselves were altered: bends were priced right for gameplay and wrong for maintenance, the punishment curve went flat at five bends and deterred nothing, GR8 was the only rule that cost nothing to break, and flying under a cleaner name was a better deal than the rulebook claimed.

While v14 was on the cabinet, David Friedrich did some housekeeping.

While v14 was on the cabinet, David Friedrich changed the rules.

landed as “The rules and the referee learned what the cabinet is called” — 07 August 2026

The rules themselves were altered: the game is HYPERCOLOR ASTEROIDS now, and CLAUDE.md, the referee, the session brief and both book generators were all still saying the old name out loud. A book whose cover calls the game something the splash screen does not is worse than either name on its own, so they move together - and by GR10 they move without the game, which landed on its own one commit ago.
